Doron,

Thanks for the kind comment and welcome to Ubon. The Candle Festival is to celebrate and kick off Buddhist Lent which is determined by the full moon in July. This year the parade will be on July 8th so best days would be now through July 9th.
You can participate in most activities for no cost. The parade is free except for VIP viewing seats. Room rates range from 160TB to 11,000TB so its up to your budget and availability. If you get your food from the street vendors or small shops you can eat for under 200TB per day.

Transportation on the local mini-buses is 10TB.

Enjoy the festival.

Hi Darwin
First thank you for all the info. My name is doron, I'm traveling in Asia now. I'm in Pakse- Laos planing to cross to Thailand (Ubon) soon. I heard about the festival and it sounds amazing.
I have a few questions: when do you think it's the best dates to be in Ubon for the festival? How difficult it is and how expensive is to find a place to sleep in thouse days, and does it coast money to be in the festival?
unfortunatly I'm traveling in low budget andhave only two weeks visa for all Thailand.

Thanks a lot for you help

Darwin,

Thanks for the schedule for the Candle Festival events. I've been here two years and have been to the festivities three times...Once while visiting before I moved here!

I'm planning on being "sick" the Friday before the parade so I can get to Ubon with my girlfriend! Haven't missed a Candle Festival yet...and we absolutely have to try out that new Korean BBQ that you mentioned in one of your recent posts...I believe the name was Anyoung. WE LOVE FOOD!!

Take care and thanks again,
Guy
