  Earth Day passed without much hoopla here in Ubon.  Even so there are green living opportunities available to those who wish to practice this in their daily lifestyle.In many ways it’s much easier to sustain an earth friendly way of life living here in Ubon Ratchathani. But in other ways bad habits that western societies developed and have been fighting hard to overcome.You can join the ranks for motorcycle riders in Ubon. Motorcycles are cheap and easy to get. They are much easier to get around town and find places to park than a sedan, pickup or SUV. They are also much easier on the pocketbook when stopping at a petrol station.
• Ubon Ratchathani Immigration Good Service

  Customs and Immigration Service for Ubon Ratchathani is located in a the small village district of Phiboon Mangsahan. It is located 40kms east of Ubon city on the way to Chong Mek or Khong Jiam.You can get there by bus or truck from Ubon main bus terminal or at WarinChamrap in front of the market. One way will cost you 40 baht or less and normally the trip is less than one hour.You can also drive there by car or motorcycle. I know one guy who frequently rides his bicycle to take care of his business at Immigration.As we expats know and maybe many travelers too, visa  matters are serious and can often times make for big headaches.
• New Ubon Attraction Sam Pan Bok

  There are many tourist attractions around Ubon Ratchathani that do not get much promotion. But lately I have noticed many billboards with pictures of a place on the Mekong River.Maybe you have seen them too, if you live in Ubon. I got curious and asked around. I discovered it was a place over in Pho Sai district named Sam Pan Bok, meaning 3000 Holes in Thai. I could smell another adventure coming.It was time to make a trip to Immigration in Phibun Mangsahan so I planned to add a journey to check out this famous holes on the river. I planned an early departure to make sure there was time to take in the sights.

  It is Thursday March 19, 2009 here in Ubon Ratchathani, Thailand. This post is to provide some interesting things that happened and other information about our Isaan home.Ubon Traveller AssistanceThis morning I got up and shaved, a rare occurance. I had a meet and greet scheduled at the Ubon International Airport. The morning Thai Airways Internation flight, TG020, arriving from Bangkok at 07:05. The man I was meeting recognized me immediately. He was friendly and gracious.The man I met is named Frank. He runs a travel agency out of London. He is married to a Thai lady from the neighboring province of Amnat Charoen.

  Nestled along the banks of Mekhong River, in Khong Jiam district of Ubon Ratchathani lies a secluded resort villa. It is Tohsang Sedhapura pool villas. I had walked through it on a prior visit to Khong Jiam and my curiosity was aroused. I had to experience staying there if I ever got the chance. That chance arrived sooner than expected.To check-in to Sedhapura resort villas, you must go to the Tohsang Resort Khong Jiam front desk. For the special guests of the villas, located about 200 meters south of Tohsang resort, the process is expedited. I was escorted by two staff members who offered me an umbrella.

What we lack in the excitement, glitter, nightlife and shopping of Bangkok and Pattaya is made up with natural beauty, quality of life and lifestyle. There are many blogs about or referring to Ubon about a variety of topics. You will find posts about travel, teaching, volunteering, experiences, relationships and more.There is a relatively small expat community living here in Ubon. I have noticed, lately, the foreign population, though small and scattered is growing. You will find assorted reasons for moving to Isaan, retirement, relationships, teaching, lifestyle, weather, food, cost of living just to name a few.

  [/caption]Ubon Ratchathani is the place where I first arrived here. If you travel by air it is the only option.Since my initial experience flying to Ubon there have been many changes.  Some changes in the name of competition and others for economic reasons.You could fly from Ubon to Danang, Viet Nam eight years ago but that service has since been cancelled. Thai Airways International increased daily service between Ubon and Bangkok from 2 to 3 times a day. Oh yes and air fares increased as well.Air Asia flew onto the scene bringing competition and discount fares with their no-frill service.
